Kingston Standard Church

About KS Church

Our vision is to glorify God by being a healthy church, accessible to all.

Our Beliefs

We are convinced that Jesus is interested in each and every part of our life.

We believe that this life matters, and that through our actions and attitudes, we bring glory to God – demonstrating the life of Jesus to the world around us.

Basically, we’re into Jesus and not into religion. We believe everyone should be invited into a growing relationship with Him.

Here are some specific points of doctrine:

About Scripture

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that people were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error. So our beliefs, practices, priorities, and our mission are anchored in clear biblical teachings.

About God

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who came to earth to reveal God to people and to become the Saviour of the world.

About Humanity

We believe that people are created in the image of God and have inherent value. We believe we are created to have a connected friendship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are unable to regain a right relationship with God through their own efforts.

About Salvation

We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin and restoring the connected friendship with God for which we were created. Therefore, salvation occurs when a person places their faith in the work of Jesus Christ, who died and rose again, as sufficient payment for their sin.

About the Christian Life

We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should grow to have their life look more like Jesus. This transformation is made clear through a Christian’s inner life and outward actions.

About the Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the body of Christ are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. We desire to be leaders in serving people. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the world.

Our Pastor

For the past 25 years Rob MacCallum has been compelled by a vision to see people fully engaged in the mission God has called us to of making disciples.

After serving in ministry leadership positions in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina, he joined the staff of Sussex Wesleyan Church in New Brunswick as Lead Pastor in 2008.

His desire is to equip and invest in anyone God brings around him so they may better understand how God wants to do great things through them.

Both graduates of Kingswood University, he and his wife, Vallerie, have four children, Caleb, Daniel, Brooke and Nathan.

Rob writes, “As an avid Kayaker, everywhere I go, I am checking out the water. I love cooking on the BBQ and cheering my family in their pursuit of sports and arts and leadership.

An encourager by God’s design, opportunities for ministry that have sharpened me have usually revolved around the key people who have influenced my life.

Ministry roles in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and New Brunswick have all included great seasons and challenging moments. I have many hidden skills that started at an early age, and to my knowledge, I still hold the record for holding your breath in church as a 10 year old.

Of all the things I’ve been able to do in ministry, I still enjoy conflict the least and watching someone grow in faith the most.

Passion for healthy parenting and taking the journey with people to help them become builders of God’s Kingdom is what gets me out of bed in the morning.”

Our Worship

We meet every Sunday at 10:30 am for Family Worship. Our church is located at 1185 Sunnyside Road in Kingston, Ontario.

Our building is fully accessible with accessible washrooms on both levels. Hearing assists are available at the sound booth at the back of the sanctuary.

We post our current message online every Sunday at 8 am. Current and previous messages can be viewed on our YouTube channel.

Kids Church

Our Sunday service includes our elementary and teenage family members. During our service we include a Kids Video Moment for elementary kids. After the Video Moment, elementary age children go together to our Kid Zone environment.

Our Cabin Kids YouTube Channel and Cabin Kids Facebook Page parallels the Sunday morning teaching so parents can have conversations with their children and pass their faith onto the next generation.

Our Mission

Our mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

As a church, we choose to value the following things as we pursue our vision and mission:

Biblical Authority
God has spoken to us through the Bible and we recognize it as the final authority for our lives.

Intimacy with God
God desires an intimate relationship with each one of us.

Relational Evangelism
God’s message of forgiveness through Christ is most effectively conveyed within the context of personal relationships.

Authentic Community
Accountability, belonging, care, and spiritual growth happens best with relationally connected believers.

Strategic Service
Our spiritual gifts have maximum impact when exercised in healthy action.

Our Heritage

Kingston Standard Church finds its roots in Methodist theology and its founder John Wesley.

in 1918, Reverend J.G. Nussey held tent revival meetings in McBurney Park, which led to the Kingston Standard Society being formed. Later that year the Kingston Standard Church began.

In 1975 construction began at the corner of Sydenham and Sunnyside Rd. Then, in 2003 the Kingston Standard Church, along with the Standard Church of America, voted to merge with the Central Canada District of The Wesleyan Church.

Today we stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us—both their successes and their failures have helped us to grow. We look to the days ahead with great excitement and expectancy of how God will continue to use us to influence the people around us to be all God has called them to be.
